Holding hands
"His body shivered in pain, in longingness and he missed holding her hands."
He never missed her as he missed the shade in the summer or as he missed his village when he moved to a bigger city,it was something deeper , a wound rather, which occasionally made him forget all the happiness in his life. He withstood all that pain, all that longingness but couldn't bring himself to believe that she was gone.
A page from my story:
In a world ruled by prejudices, he never went out with any girl, for he believed it to be wrong. He disapproved her wishes to go for a ride, alone , but on a certain day he did agree. The weather was sunny , the quiet bridge blowing all around and they were together in the arms of nature. For he was filled with thoughts about her appearance , which made him curious, she was not beautiful as such, but prettier than all others he had met. She embodied his imagination of a perfect woman.
They walked by the river , holding hands, together they seemed happy but unfulfilling . Her sadness beyond words, for she knew that everything was going to end soon and in no way she can let him to be alone. He searched for happiness in her eyes, but couldn't find the belongingness he desired to see, all he could see was pain , so deep that it could swallow oceans within and so shallow that he couldn't get inside her heart. His suffering grew and his discomfort surfaced in his eyes. She could feel his eyes melting, but she kept still. They sat by the bank and kept staring at the river. Time passed by and no one dared to break the ice.
At the end she asked him what he valued more than her , and he couldn't answer . He never looked at life the way she did, he was careless , but deep inside he knew the answer to her question. They were graduating the next day and were going to get apart , but their belongingness in each other's soul will always be there.
She clasped him in her arms and his body became stiff, with fear, with agony, with love and anxiety , fire was running through his veins. This was the first time he felt her comforting touch. She kissed his forehead and he replied with the same. She pushed him away and went towards their ride. He was dumbfounded, he stood motionless and his vile self didn't allow him to go to where she stood. For the first time in life he felt pain, pain that suffocates our very existence . He gathered all his strength and went towards her, her tears had dried and she seemed without any emotion whatsoever. He couldn't dare to speak anything and they went back holding each others'hands . He dropped her at her place and went back.
They never met afterwards, she couldn't survive the disease she was suffering from and he couldn't survive his loss. He lived a dead life , he became dry. For he knew that they were not lovers, neither friends but something more than all the worldly relations that binds humans. His story didn't end with her , it started after she left...
"We are creatures capable of great love, capable of bearing even greater pain and that is what makes us human."
